This is an aerial shot of my buddy Michael's place. Well, he lives in one of the towers here. I'll let him mark it.

The last light of the day yesterday held out for some nice rays under the heaviness of falling darkness. the textured sky was quite cool and can be seen in detail in the larger sizes.
3 exposure HDR tonemapped.

Granville and Burrard bridges cross False Creek in Vancouver.
This was the first time I used my 80-210 telephoto from the helicopter. It performed well and provided much more in the way of individual subjects, different angles and generally better detail. This Tokina Autofocus is such a nice lens. f/4 throughout the range means you can shoot in even cloudy weather with good results.

I spent a blissed-out hour shooting in the amazing working garden of Hollyhock resort.
Today is Bokeh Wednesday. One thing they grow in abundance at Hollyhock is bokeh.
Taken with my manual focus f/2.4 50mm macro.
Yesterday I passed four million views on my photostream. I appreciate your comments, feedback, favs, notes, - all of it. Cheers. Thanks everyone.

Blue skies here on Cortes Island at the end of the day, and you can see the storm making its way northward into the distance over the coastal mountain range.
This was shot at sunset with the last rays of light hitting the beach after filtering through the trees.
Tonemapped pseudohdr processing.

An explanation of what is happening in this image. We're flying over the northern gulf Islands in a twin prop Citation and the storm wreaking havoc on the west coast of BC right now is just arriving. It has started to engulf us. You can see in the distance the mountains are still in full .sun. The thin leading edge of the storm is casting an eerie glow and the water below is is darker.
I landed a few minutes later in Powell River and caught a water taxi to Cortez just in time for the big wind to hit. We're seeing 80km/hr gusts right now. Very noisy.
Stay safe and dry everyone!

Leaving Vancouver for Cortez Island tomorrow. I have never been there. So many people I respect speak highly of the Hollyhock Institute. We'll see what it means for me. At the very least I should get some interesting photos of a gorgeous part of the world.

I kinda like the cross-processed feel to this aerial. This is a big image so check out the larger sizes.
Tone mapped a little in Photomatix but most of the PP in this was done in Photoshop.
Playing with my new macro lens. A whole new world of possibilities. I think I will explore focus stacking now.
I took this in Playfair Park in Victoria. The park is home to a forest of 25' tall Rhododendrons that are all in bloom right now. If you live in Victoria or are visiting, make sure you check it out. Gorgeous park with both natural Garry Oak ecosystem and cultivated gardens. Playground for the kids too. Check the map for this photo for the location.
Those of you who follow my stream know this plant. It was cultivated by coastal peoples long before Europeans arrived. We think of them as wild flowers but in fact the fields of them we see are remnants of cultivation ten generations ago and before.
This blossom is about an inch across in whole but I am showing only the middle third. They are also found in the Garry Oak ecosystem.

Fellow Vancouverites if you would be so kind as to help out with notes on landmarks, much appreciated.
Very clear day yesterday and the helicopter ride yielded some really clear shots. I upped the shutter speed on these to 640/sec to make sure I didn't get any motion blur.
These are the seeds that emerge from moss. Perhaps a half-centimeter tall, the drops are 1mm. Supermacro reverse 50mm technique.
More found pieces from various archive disks.
Morning dew on heather. If you know this ornamental shrub, you know how small this is. Both reflection (of me) and refraction are at work here.
Reversed 50mm lens couple with my trusty old Casio EX-P505, a great little camera.
I am starting to get all my photos, which are currently scattered across five hard drives, localized onto a single archive and into Adobe LightRoom. In the process I am coming across a lot of images I produced but did not post.
Landing in the helijet this am I caught this lightplay on Vancouver Harbour.
Have a great Thursday everyone!
Shot from the Top of the Mark lounge. Golden Gate Bridge is in the distance. 3 Exposure HDR
Common lawn daisy, approx. 1cm in diameter. you wouldn't even notice this little flower most of the time but the supermacro treatment makes me think of the sun because it has so much color and dynamism. I also like the way the various parts of this tiny object pop in and out of the depth of field. there used to be group on flickr for this effect.
Shot from one of the lobbies of the new Vancouver Convention Centre. I treated this with Topaz Adjust and Topaz Denoise. I have a new computer so get to run another 30 day free cycle of these great plugins for CS. I might just buy couple of them this time.
My previous shots below give you a sense of how much glass is in play here.
This interesting structure lives in a public area near Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Three exposure HDR tonemapped in Photomatix
This segment of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco ends on Treasure Island. I met a cab driver who lives there. I thought he was kidding at first. "I live on treasure Island" he said. Yeah right buddy.
Clouds create a dappled shadow patter on Georgia Strait. I did not correct the lens distortion of the horizon because I feel the false curve adds an "Earth-like" feel.
Three freighters lined up nicely for me as we flew over English Bay. Gorgeous day over Vancouver.
